#51 – How to Deal with Your Fear of Starting Your Own Business

April 13, 2021
The Steven de Cuba Podcast

Before jumping into the episode of today, I just want to feel you and in what is happening in my business. Last week, by the point of this recording, I launched my online programme The Intentional Personal Branding Online Program

This is my group coaching program that helps busy creatives build a personal brand on social media so that they can turn their passion into a profitable business. On the 24th of March. I opened the doors only for a week and I have to say that this launch exceeded my expectations.

I had three different goals, my “okay goal” and my “alright this is awesome if I achieve this goal”, and the third one “my hairy scary goal”. Well, my friend, I have achieved and exceeded my hairy scary goal! I’m excited because today I have over 60 members into the ipb programme and I more than 400% increase my members and the revenue that I’ve made. I am in the phase of my business then I’m happy and am loving what is happening right now.

I just wanted to know that whatever is happening in your business, I want you to stay committed, I want you to continue showing up for your biggest goal, I want you to continue showing up for your biggest dreams. You may not be exactly where you want to be, but dang it,  can we look back and see the progress that you have made can we start appreciating the growth and the courage that you had that got you to this point?

The version of yourself of 6 months ago or 3 months ago is completely different than what you now have today, so how about we start being grateful for what we have today?

Podcast-Cover-1 #51 - How to Deal with Your Fear of Starting Your Own Business Podcast

Often what happens is that most people look at what other people are doing, especially on social media, and we start comparing ourselves for what they have, or what they are doing, or what they are achieving, and we’ll look back and ourselves and we feel like we are not doing enough. Often this brings the feeling of overwhelm or it brings the feeling of being stuck.

But today I want to remind you that wherever you’re at right now, you are exactly where you need to be and you are one step closer to your goal. It really doesn’t matter where other people are in their journey – we all have individual journeys. This is your invitation to start enjoying and celebrating your progress, celebrate your wins, celebrate each individual step because each individual step is what is going to bring you closer to your goal.

One of the things that we are talking about in the IPB programme is defining your success. What does success look like for you? Because my version of success looks way different than your version of success, and vice versa, your version of success looks way different than my version of success.

I would encourage you to listen to this episode and write down what success looks like for you and how you can measure your version of success. If success means that you can wake up every single morning and have breakfast with your husband or with your wife, or if it means that you can give your daughter a bath every morning or bring your kids to school– that is YOUR version of success.

At the same time we can also talk about failure. What is failure? Because I believe that failure is a choice. I believe that failure is an opportunity for us to grow and if we start looking at failure as something positive, if we start looking as failure as the opportunity for us to get closer to our goal, failure becomes something beautiful.

In fact, I want you to fail harder. I want you to feel again and again and again.

I want you to create a blog post that is difficult to write.

I want you to create podcast episodes that are cringey to listen to.

I want you to go live on Instagram and have a no one looking at you.

I want you to feel what it feels like not having what you want and learn from those things, and have an opportunity to learn how to get better.

This is where the growth happens. The growth happens in the doing. The growth happens in the uncomfortable. The growth happens outside of your comfort zone.

So if you want to take something out of this conversation: fail, fail harder, fail again and again and again, so that you can get closer to your goal.

Much love,

Steven de Cuba
